Jesus - Give Him His Place Colossians 1:15-23

If we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus. See John 14:9-11a. God wants us to know his Son Jesus, to embrace him, to walk with him, to love him, to serve him.

1. Knowing Jesus as Creator

All things were created by him and for him
All things are held together by him

2. Knowing Jesus as head of the church
The church as a new creation "I will build my church" and be its head.

3. Knowing Jesus as Savior and Lord

Old things have passed away, all things have become new.
Jesus as Lord of all in our lives When we know Jesus, we have a new world view. We are members of his kingdom and live as those who are on our way to a heavenly home.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of [21] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-- 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father'? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. (John 14:9-11a)
