Sermon notes for 7/12/2015 (2 Thessalonians 2:13-17)
Stand firm Andy Nagahara

A. God chose you and called you (13, 14)

1. Through the work of the Spirit (13)

But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

2. For you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ (14)

He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

B. Responding to Gods calling (15-17)

1. Hold to the teachings (15)

So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

2. Live in every good deed and word (16, 17)

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,
17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

Summary

Choosing and Calling are God's fundamental grace for us. Those are not only for our benefits, but also for people around you, especially who do not yet know the grace. There are serious difficulties in every era, place and culture. But, if you stand firm and live in every good deed and word, you will be the person who not only has hope but also gives hope.

For Discussion
1) What does it mean to be "standing firm" for you?
2) What kind of good deeds are we involved?
