Sermon notes for 9/13/2015 (1 Timothy 2:1-7)
Your ministry as a 'pastor' Andy Nagahara

A. Understanding the Gospel correctly, Then… (1-3)

1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,

1) Praying

2) Advising

B. Knowing God's will (4-6)

4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.

7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

C. Knowing your own duty (7)

7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1Peter 2:9)

You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth. (Revelation 5:10)

Summary

All the followers of Jesus have their own pastoral duties at the places they are. It is to take care of the people there, for their souls, hearts and bodies according to God's will. Good pastors should pray and advise rightly. They should share the Gospel of Jesus correctly. And, they would not spare themselves for knowing better God's will and the duties that they have been given.

For Discussion
1) How should we pray for our people in authority?
2) What duties have you been given?
