A. Is Messiah the son of David? (Luke20:41-44)

41 Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David? 42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms: “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ 44 David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”

1. Yes (It can be said so)
2. No(But really He is not)
3. Messiah is the one whom David called his “Lord”

B. Jesus is the Messiah for all people
1. The one who resurrected from death (Acts2:30-36)

30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ 36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (Acts 2:30-36)

2. The invitation for all people (37-39)
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off―for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:37-39)

SUMMARY

Messiah came for all people regardless of one’s ethnicity or religion. We believe that Jesus is the Messiah, but He belongs to neither the Jews or even Christianity. We rejoice in our faith in Jesus as our Messiah and desire to live to love Him, which is the right thing to do, but the right one is not us, but only Jesus. Once we mistake this point, we would make up a messiah who is convenient to our own sake, and miss the true Messiah and His love for all people.

FOR DISCUSSION
1) What does messiah mean?
2) Why can we say Jesus is the Messiah for all people?
