Listening to the voice of the LORD (Psalm 29)

A. Ascribing glory to the LORD (1-2)

A psalm of David. Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

1) Understanding the Lord correctly
2) Understanding oneself correctly

B. Listening to the voice of the LORD

1) God has ruled all from the beginning to the present (3)

The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.

2) The voice of the LORD as thunder and lightning (4-9)

The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

3) God will be ruling all forever (10)

The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever.

C. Two things we should ask God (11)

The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.

1) Strength
2) Peace

Summary

Although we are living in the times that various information make God’s voice difficult to hear, and yet we can listen carefully to the voice of the Lord and obey him. The voice of the Lord never disappear from the beginning to the end of the world. Only by living with God we can get real strength and peace.
